Liberty look for some revenge on the Connecticut Sun

It was a celebration, but one thing was missing for the home team. New York hosted the Liberty Seattle Storm on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale for Sue Bird in New York City. The match has been tight all year 2020 WNBA The heroes closed in hard and came out with win over.

Tonight’s opponent will be the Connecticut Sun. Kurt Miller and his friends are back again near the top of the league as they stand at the top of the Eastern District standings. They were on the road on a Sunday afternoon, but Lost To Sophia Washington.

the game

Freedom took the game One While the sun took the match two.

So, the last time Liberty saw the sun, they committed a franchise record 32 spins en route to a frustrating loss. Liberty got a lot better in June, and we can thank its low turnover for a lot of that. They had the third lowest turnover in the WNBA in June, and tonight will be a great test of their recent improvement. When you tackle elite competition aggressively, it gives you a boost the rest of the way. With this match, Liberty will get another chance to show that they belong to the best teams in the league.

Han Xu hadn’t played in the first two Sun games, so it would be an interesting match for her. Hahn had a tough game on Sunday afternoon when she went 3-9 from the field and missed shots on the edge she normally makes. Having Han’s size will help greatly against the best rebounding team in the W this year. She and Steve Dolson will be full inside and the team will need strong performances from both if they are to win this.

Speaking of the size of the sun, we will see the best player in the game. Jonkel Jones is third in the W in the plates at 9.4 nights. She also leads the team in scoring with a shade of over 15 per night on .526/ .377/ .806 shooting splits. Oddly enough, she only gets ten shots per match, which is low for an amazing player like her, but things have been going well for Sun so it’s not a problem for the time being at least.

Natasha Howard will get the job done again, and she will look to see if she can replicate the success she had on opening night. Howard is also looking to recover after a rough ride against the sun on Sunday where she only went 5-15 off the field in 30 minutes.

We have to say hi to an old friend tonight! Last week the sun Occurred Former Liberty guard/forward Jazmine Jones to a contract. Jones played a very difficult role with Liberty during her two years here and in the documentary, unfinished businessThis play popped up

Jones is a jolt of energy and Sun fans will love it.

Courtney Williams is back on CT, and it wasn’t the best start. She has one of the most Difficult seasons of her career, and she’ll need to do better if the Sun is to seize that elusive championship. If your goalkeeper doesn’t drop shots and the ball is in her hands as Williams does, that can make things difficult on the goal line.

After the second meeting, we asked Kurt Miller about the differences in how the sun guards Sabrina Ionescu in match two versus match one:

We were a bit conservative with our style of guarding it and it took advantage of that, and we didn’t adjust that coverage soon enough. There was more attention to her, we showed her different covers, gave her a different look, tried not to be just one team look at her tonight, and sent her a lot of attention. Now, that resulted in some other people getting open shots or some open plays, but there was a lot of focus by our unit there to make it more difficult than we did in the first game against Sabrina.”

Ionescu was great in June and even when her shot isn’t there, her passing keeps things moving and creates a clean look for her teammates across the field. In a game like this, they will need to make use of as many of their open appearances as possible.

Player to watch: Deewana Bonner

When a player has been a professional for a long time, things tend to level out as consistency develops. Your strengths are your strengths, your weaknesses are your weaknesses, etc. For Bonner, something interesting has happened this season. Over the course of the year, the DB scores a career high of 36.8 percent from the three-point range in nearly five attempts per night. For her career, she’s only been shot 30.2 percent from downtown. In Posteason, the post gets more clogged, so you’ll need to shoot well from the depths to unlock the attack. If Bonner was able to keep filming on this clip, it would be hard to deal with the sun.

Welcome to another version of MJ! Marines Johannes had a great ESPN Sunday afternoon as her 23 points and assists helped Liberty come toe with a storm. Johannes’ defense has been a big part of her game this season as well, and her athleticism has played a crucial role for Liberty. They’ll need another big game from them if they want to start this two-game road trip with a win.
